That is correct. An original is perfectly legal to sell, trade, give away, etc.  The copyright comes into play with copies, be they "hard copies" or electronic copies.

Such is allowed under the Berne Convention to which International Copyright Laws conform.

This whole topic has to do with the sale of COPIES of Heath manuals, doesn't it...not ORIGINAL manuals.  

No one needs anyone's permission to sell an original manual.
