   If you suspect a self oscillation problem, (needing neutralized) simply switch to the crystal 
with no crystal in the socket, turn it on (into a test load {key down}) then tune and load like mad, 
if you get any power out your suspicions are confirmed.

   My DX-100 oscillated (when I first got it, very used) until I soldered the shield between the 
driver and PA tubes to the chassis in 4 places on each side (all copper plated), you could remove 
it, clean the chassis & the bottom of the shield and apply a thin coating of No-Ox to mating 
surfaces before re-assembly.
