[Heathkit] cleaning wafer switches

Same thing about 6146B tubes. Half of what you read on here is BS. Most of the time, people having trouble with boat anchors using 6146B tubes is, they have some other problem with their transmitter or don't have a clue what they are doing. I've used too many of them to know they work just fine. I've pritty much stopped giving advice as some lid will always find the exception to have the last word or you will get guff from some idiot not accepting advice he seperately needs. What was on here the other day, O yea, the "interelectrode capacitances is different in a B tube"! WRONG!!!! If they are not the same, then the tube manuals must be all wrong.
Another thing that always amazes me is the resistance to use new electrolytics to replace 50 year old ones. Then when the thing blows up, such as the bias supply, you then hear the crying and wailing! Instead of recapping, they take the advice of some guy who got lucky and hasn't had a problem using his 50 year old electrolytic condenser.
I always like to read about the guy who just purchased a rig at a "special price" and the only thing wrong with it is it doesn't work and the chassis is super pitted and corroded. The you hear, "Hey gang", what special spray can I buy for a buck that will shine this baby and make it look like new again?"
What was on here the other day? Oh yea, the DX-100B didn't have a copper chassis so maybe this is why the transmitter was self oscillating! Never mind Heath sold a zillion B transmitters which never had this problem all having a nickle plated chassis.
And then you hear from the Super Kool Dude Technician, "Hey gang!" "I am in need of one 100,000k 1/2 watt resistor, and a .001 uF 1000 volt disc cap. Anyone got one to spare"?
Then there is the "don't use ceramic disc caps in audio circuits as the vibration will give you microphnics!" Give me a break, I don't live on a fault zone so earthquakes are not a problem here. I think if I had one, I might stop transmitting while it occured. So far, shack vibration has not upset the apple cart in my audio chains using disc caps within them. The next step here is to be hearing what colored wire sounds best and which solder posts give "mellow sound".
One time I was discussing my Lowfer 189 Khz transmitter which is solid state. (Experimental CB band allowing 1 watt by hobbyists). Some guy wrote back warning me during an atomic bomb attack the atomic blast would most likely knock out my finals in the transmitter! As if this would be my main concern if the US was under nuclear attack!
I've learned to accept most of this quackery and let it just pass. It gets worse each day!
The other day, a good friend of mine heard some EXTRA Class ham asking his contact, how do you build a dipole antenna?
This is why I kind of stay in my little world with close ham friends and keep to myself restoring my old ham transmitters and receivers.
