My wife's mother died at the age of 97 and she ate "southern cooking" all of her life. My wife's mother's eldest sister lived to be 101 and she ate "southern cooking" all her life. My wife's great great grandmother lived to be "2 weeks short of her 104th birthday" in rural Georgia mostly during the 19th century. There was basically no medical care, etc., in her area.

My paternal grandmother died at 89, having outlived 5 of her 7 children. She always ate whatever!

There is the story of a man who was being interviewed on his 100th birthday. The man was lying in a hospital bed in his bedroom. A reporter asked him to what he attributed his long life. The man replied that he had never smoked, never drank alcohol, had been faithful to his wife, and so forth.

Then, a commotion was heard upstairs. The reporter asked the man what that was all about. He replied that it was his old grandpa drunk and chasing women!

Kielbasa, Pirogi, and the other Polish staples do NOT shorten one's lifespan.

Both of my Mother's parents lived into their 80s.  One at 84, had a small stroke that caused him to fall backward against the tub and caused a sever cerebral hemorrhage.  The other passed at 86, and that came after she dropped a coffee pot and broke her hip and had to have it replaced.

So much for "New England" style healthy eating.......

There is much more to this than WHAT is being cooked and eaten.
