[Heathkit] SB-610 solid state conversion

You may want to consider laying out a PC board that can be easily mounted in
the bottom of the SB-610 and contains ALL of the parts (HV and all). This
would make a nice retrofit for the SB-610; similar to what Bob (K8GNZ) did
for the HP-23. If you want, I could help with the PC Board Layout. A
double-sided PC board should only cost around $10.00 (in quantity) or so
from many of the PC houses in China. I have used the China PC Boards and
the quality is good if you select the right vendor.
I'd also suggest an astigmatism control which was very much needed on the
SB-610 and was not there. Of course switching to solid state will also
increase the changes of permanent damage to the inputs in case of overload
or incorrect set up. You'd also need some input limiting to help protect
from this as well. While you're at it, maybe we could also come up with
standard coils that could easily be switched in and out of circuit to
provide the various IF frequencies. That has also been a pain with the
SB-610. If the PC board had all of the coils (needed or not) they wouldn't
get lost over time. Hey this is starting to sound like a really good
idea...
I have an SB-610 in the boneyard, that I wouldn't mind contributing to the
project.
Just my 2 cents...
Ok now, get ready to dodge the rocks!!!
