[Heathkit] [Heathkit:Yahoo] hole in SB cabinet

I *think* it was for the SB-640 Remote VFO connection.  MY SB-101 has a 9
pin molex connector there but no mention of it in the SB-101 manual.  The
SB-640 manual tells how to wire your rig up for it and it shows a 9 pin
connector in the schematic.

A friend asked "why is there a rectangular cutout in the rear of some SB 
line cabinets"?
I confessed to not knowing the answer to that one.
Now I am curious. Why did Heath pre-punch that hole like a knock out? What 
is it for?
