Stick in my 2 cents. You can usually get "transformer" oil, the type used
in transformers, circuit breakers and capacitors, from any large utility.
They often have a bunch to dispose of that did not pass their HV dielectric
test, they remove it and clean/filter it regularly and have extra at times.
It is plenty pure enough for a dummy load. Ask around and you can pick up a
gallon or so for the asking. Take you own container.

The Heathkit manual cautioned against using any kind of motor oil
because of its lower flashpoint.
