There is a difference between "mineral oil" that is sold at pharmacies and "transformer oil". However, "mineral oil" will work fine. Instead of purchasing it at a "drug store" go to a "farm" supply store. You can purchase a gallon of mineral oil for less than what you will pay for a pint of "mineral oil" at a pharmacy.
Also, if there is an electric company service center near they will have 55 gallon drums full of "transformer oil". Most of them will just give you a gallon because it costs more to "write up" the order and then get paid than the oil actually costs. Transformer oil is often what many utility companies call "free stock". Those are items that are routinely used in their business that cost more to "keep track of" than the actual cost of the material. Therefore, those items are issued on a "regular" basis and just considered a "cost of doing business".
