Its time to go modern.

You ca reuse the coil, and lose the resistor. Get a 50 Ohm 5W MOX resistor 
and a pair of 100pf 500V silver mica caps from Mouser.

Lay the coil and resistor in parallel and connect a cap between them at both 
ends. Thats a modern suppressor that works. The resistor has some inductance 
and the caps cancel it. No voodoo science involved.
