[Heathkit] SB-630 information 2nd request - problem discovered!

Jack,

fwiw - the same part number is used in the HW-16 (which I don't have). 
The HW-16 parts list says the same thing - neon lamp. Page 42 of the 
SB-630 manual describes the function of the neon lamp. When it fires 
(i.e. the voltage reaches a point where it will conduct), it sends a 
positive pulse through C22 to the grid of V1. It shouldn't be too 
difficult to make something else work. You may have to play games with 
R24/25/26 and C23/24 to get a charge adequate to fire the lamp. 
Resistors R33 thru 37 also are part of this circuit.

There is a rather complete list of neon lamp specs on the 
nostalgickitscentral.com web page. If you get stuck, I can check the 
firing voltage on my SB-630 for you.
