That's a full-wave voltage-doubler circuit, Dave. So each one only
takes roughly half of the voltage. Even so, I recommend going with 450V
units. if for no other reason than the .
My opinion, and that's all it is, is that many of the '610's discrete
components were marginal when the kit was new. Now we have to contend
with the increase in household AC line voltages since then.
In our '610 rebuild kit for example , we bump up the voltage rating of
almost all of the capacitors, including the can-cap. We also upgrade
the resistors to 500V film-type, and with higher wattage ratings, for
this same reason. There are a number of original carbon-comps,
particularly in the focus and intensity circuits, that have a tendency
to cook and go way up in resistance.
