Check with Glen Zook, K9STH, he has pre-made cables for sale and may know
why that length is specified.

Here's something I found in a Google search which eludes as to "why" for the
specific lengths:

"The first item is the interconnect cables. You can use RG-58/59 or video
cable for the LMO & BFO but be sure to use the prescribed 24'" of RG-62
for the het oscillator. Otherwise the rx het oscillator may not start -
especially on the higher bands."

Good Luck

Subject: [Heathkit] SB-301/401 Cables

In the process of getting my 401 going the first thing I want to do is
replace the cables. For the RG-62 cables the manual states 24" long, why is
this? For the way my setup is thats to short, could I get away with 2.5 to
3ft instead?? In the morning I'm hoping to pick up the coax cable and get
started.
