In reality, the ARRL really has only 5 contests per year that occupy the
HF bands:
ARRL International DX contest (CW)
ARRL International DX contest (phone)
ARRL Field Day
ARRL Sweepstakes (CW)
ARRL Sweepstakes (phone)

They also sponsor "speciality" contests such as VHF, EME, RTTY, 10GHz and
Up, Straight Key night, and two Kids day. I can't why there would be a
beef with ARRL HF contests. The aren't that many. As far as rudeness and
various violations of operating procedures, you can generally find that
almost every day on most of the HF bands. It's not limited to contests.
Many of the "diehard" contesters are the most skill operators on the
amateur bands..
