[Heathkit] GR-98 Tuning lubrication

My trusty GR-98 (same as GR-88) tuning mechanism is in need of a good lubrication. Any thoughts as to the best way to excise the old grease and best material to use for new? I was thinking the lightweight grease used on model trains might work, but I'll open it up for comments.
