When you pull out the knob it turns on the noise blanker.

If you don't plan on working any CW then you can pull the 400 Hz filter. But, if you do plan on working CW then the 400 Hz filter comes in VERY handy at times.

You don't have to use the CW filter to work CW, you just leave the receiver in one of the sideband positions.

I just got a SB-301 and have a couple of questions.  I noticed you can pull the AF Gain knob out but it does not seem to make any difference. What is suppose to happen with it pulled out?  Can I remove 6the CW filter and still haave the rx work?? To me the 400htz filter just kills the rx, I never have liked filters.
