You have a right to a contrary opinion but I think I'll side with the 
smart fellas who wrote the US Constitution:

The power to enact copyright law is granted in Article I, Section 8, 
Clause 8, also known as the Copyright Clause 
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copyright_Clause>, which states:

    /The Congress shall have Power [. . .] To promote the Progress of
    Science and useful Arts, by securing for limited Times to Authors
    and Inventors the exclusive Right to their respective Writings and
    Discoveries./


I have to wonder whether those who decry copyright protection might be 
on the other side if it were some other part of the Constitution in 
question - say, the Bill of Rights?
