[Heathkit] Heathkit SB-610 Vertical Gain

I have a Heathkit SB-610 Monitor Scope connected to a Heathkit SB-102. I
used a piece of 75 ohm coax with a .001 uF ceramic cap between a spare RCA
jack on the SB-102 and the plate of the 2nd IF amplifier. I first connected
the coax to the grid, but it would not receive. I have adjusted the plate
and grid coils in the scope and the SB-102 IF transformer with very little
change in envelope pattern height. I would like to get the pattern to about
1” – 1 ½” as per scope manual.

With the SB-610 vertical gain pot and the SB-102 RF gain pot fully clockwise
the receive envelope pattern is approximately ¼” high and the transmit
envelope pattern about ½” high on SSB. On CW the transmit envelope pattern
is full screen, but I can’t see the received CW keying. Any help would be
appreciated.
