I caried a 25D aboard ship during my Navy days. Its a lot easier to lug up
and down levels in storm conditions especially when Radio Central is a few
hundred feet from the ET Shack and along an open deck. I spent 2 1/2 years
on a tanker.
Ive had a 25D here for about 20 years before it started acting up; too much
hassle to bother with. Found a 606A locally on Craigslist for $50 2 years
ago that needed one electrolytic, a bunch of 12B4A's and a very easy
alignment. Much more stable, the built in calibrator is nice, it doesnt leak
RF like the 25D, and the attenuator is extremely accurate. I used those at
National after they scrapped the GR-1001A super drifters.
My other generator is a HP 8640B and the pair get used a lot when Im doing
various performance measurements.
