Paul,

Just experience and observation.

Mine has a clean bill of health so to speak.  Although the calibrator 
oscillator recently had the oscillator tube go tennies up.  That part I 
didn't bother recalibrating as it is only off by a couple of 100 cycles.

If you get one that has had tubes replaced, and other components, it may 
need to be really aligned.  That CAN be a PIA!
