Duane -
A friend of mine brought his second edition of the Hallicrafters book
over and we compared the two side by side.
The cover art is completely different on the two books. But the
difference seem to stop there...
The number of pages was the same in both books. We randomly sampled
twenty different pages and compared those pages side by side - there
were no differences except the model names and numbers were printed in
a bold font in the second edition. Same photos, same specs, same
prices.
The Library of Congress summary card indicates that the second edition
is a "revised price guide".
I really can't see any significant difference between the two. Did
you compare them yourself before climbing on the soapbox?
Why are you making such a big deal about it? Did you want to buy the
book at a lower price? You do understand the book has been sold, don't
you? And when I mentioned the first versus second edition issue, the
answer was "I know - I assumed it was the earlier one since it was at
such a good price."
I'm guessing you are very proud to know this subtle point about the
editions of the Hallicrafters books, and want everyone to know that you
know - is that it?
Frankly, I don't really appreciate you chiming in to say "The only one
anyone should buy is the second edition." How would you feel if you
were in my position? Imagine how it would go if you offered an HW-2036
transceiver for sale and someone chimed in to say, "Oh, no one should
buy that rig, the HW-2036A is the only one to have".
Wait, that's not a perfect example - the 2036 differences actually are
meaningful - but the difference between the Hallicrafters books is not
significant.
