[Heathkit] Anyone got a DX-100 kit to make a DX-100B?

There is NOT a kit to make a DX-100 into a DX-100B!
There was a kit to change the fixed loading capacitor
arrangement into a continuously variable loading
control. Those DX-100 units that had the loading
changed were known as DX-100A units. That is why the
next unit of the DX-100 series that Heath produced was
known as the DX-100B. The DX-100B differs from the
DX-100 in several respects including the cabinet, the
variable loading control, and the fact that the 4
position crystal switch on the front panel was
replaced by a single slide switch located inside the
transmitter which had to be activated by opening the
"hatch" that is in the top of the DX-100B cabinet.
Also, there were 3 resistors in the driver stage that
were changed to get a little more drive on 10 meters.
I doubt that there are any of the original
modification kits around. However, the variable was
basically a 3-section broadcast variable and it should
not be much of a problem to fabricate one from
commonly available mechanical parts. I believe that
the DX-100 manual on BAMA includes the sheets from
this conversion kit. However, I am not at home right
now and am using my eldest daughter's "dial up"
Internet connection instead of my optical fiber
connection at my house. Therefore, I cannot easily
look at the manual on BAMA. But, I seem to recall
that the sheets from the modification kit are on BAMA.
My original DX-100 that I got used back in 1960 had
the kit added. Also, the DX-100 that I got several
years back to re-create my 2nd primary station also
has the modification kit.
While he is modifying the DX-100 I seriously recommend
adding the "spot switch" and doing the grid-block
keying modification that Heath came out with a kit
that was for both the DX-100 and DX-100B. Those
instructions are definitely on BAMA.

A friend of mine has a DX-100 that is working but the
loading control switch has a few hot-switched
contacts. He wud like to make it a DX-100B, I think
they made a kit to do that. Anyone have one collecting
dust?
