409, Fantastik and the like can do serious damage. I learned the same  
way Bob did. Now when I restore something I use dish detergent and  
wipe mildly. I often cannot get off everything that I want to but I'd  
rather leave a stubborn stain than remove paint or the finish. I've  
been fooled too by the finish on some front panels that look almost  
like raw aluminum. It is now raw, it is finished but if you rub hard  
enough you get to see what raw looks like. hi hi.
