No, not dumb.
Lots of 110/220 vac amplifiers are working on 110 lines.

If you have a good 110 vac drop it will be ok.  The only way to find out is 
plug it in and see.  You can get away with a little bit if dimming and still 
use the amplifier without causing an unsafe condition.  If you trip breakers 
or heat up wires then your 110 drop can't handle it.
For safety sake, make sure you are using the correct size fuse in the amp 
too.  The info to switch input voltages is completely covered in the manual.
