The 75% effiicency is in theory in a perfect world.

Toss in a rats nest of wiring, switching, and a tube that doesnt work 
well above 20M ( its a TV tube, not RF)and you are into the real world.

A 6146 would be more efficient but the HW-16 was all about cost.
