Subject: [Heathkit] Heathkit Chippewa power supply: the KS-1,a Harbach
alternative
(Reply by private email please, not to the list) ...
If anyone on the list owns a Chippewa (KL-1), then you know first hand the
impossibility of finding a power supply for it.
Harbach, who is merging Peter Dahl's transformer business into its domain,
will consider making the 7000V ct 500ma plate transformer at a reasonable
cost IF a group of hams will order them. The original Peter Dahl price of
this xmfr from about 6 years ago was around $300. In todays economy that is
a pipe dream. But, given a group is willing to bulk purchase (e.g. 10 ea)
them, Harbach will consider making them and might be able to keep the cost
reasonable.
At this point we are talking ONLY about the plate xmfr which would be used
to build a homebrew version of the KS-1 or as a replacement for the one in
your existing KS-1.
If you're interested, seriously interested, please send me an email saying
"Count me in". If you want more than one, say "Count me in for X number of
plate xmfrs (or something like that)".
Please pass this email on to any Heath collector/fan who owns a Chippewa or
a 4-400A tetrode pair amp and might be interested.
Thank you,
John W5JV
