I am sending this to the list also as some others have asked for this in the
past. It's probably the best use of an HD-15 today. Phone patches have
become something that is not really necessary anymore.
Do you have a manual for the HD-15?
I did not make a schematic of it because it was a simple conversion.
What is need ed is a box with a pair of isolation transfomeres in the audio
chain between the receiver audio output and the computer audio input. Then
you need a similar setup between the computer audio output and the Tx audio
input. I have a SB-401 so I needed highlevel audio. I am using the phone
patch input of the SB-401.
The purpose is to keep the computer trash out of the radio system.
MFJ makes a box that does this. But the HD-15 matched my Heath station.
I used a pair of 1000ohm to 16ohm output transformers to replace the
transformers in the HD-15. But I later realized you can use the transformers
from the HD-15 by rewiring them.
The telepone line in is bidirectional. You want to replace that with
independent input from the computer and output from the computer. I added a
pair od RCA jacks for these signals.
I connected the receiver input to the 16ohm leads of one of the
transformers. The 1000ohm secondary was connected to the outer terminals of
the receive level control. The wiper of the receive level control is
connected to the computer audio input. I use the "LINE" input.
I connected the computers audio out to the 16ohm terminals of the other
transformer. The 1000ohm terminals of this transformer are are connected to
the outer terminals of the Tx level control. The wiper of the Tx level
control are connected to the phone patch input of the SB-401. The VU meter
is used to monitor the audio level at the outer terminals of the Tx level
control.
As I metnione earlier, the original transfomers can be used. But I cannot
eaisly explain how to wire them. The main thing is to split the telephone
connection into seperate input and output.
I did this about 3 years ago and I cannot find the documentation. I may hve
lost it in a compter crash I had last Spring.
