[Heathkit] Heathkit HW-2036 manual/help

I just got an HW-2036 (not an 'A') which was purported to be working off the
'e-place'. Unfortunately, after doing a good visual inspection I applied
power and was greeted by a rather large puff of smoke. It was pretty
obvious that a 10 uF tantalum capacitor on the PA board was the culprit, and
from the (very tiny) schematic I had downloaded previously I could tell that
it was connected between the 13.6 VDC line and ground to act as a filter. I
very hopefully cut one end of the capacitor free and reapplied power, hoping
to have a working radio. Of course, Murphy wasn't about to give up that
easily.

I now have a radio that has a meter light and an occasional pop from the
speaker. The Synth light is also illuminated. Other than the occasional
speaker pop, there is no speaker noise. I did not try to push the PTT
button, but I assume nothing would happen since the Synth light is lit.

I did verify that 13.6 volts DC was getting to the PA board, but that's as
far as I went, since my schematic requires a scanning electron microscope to
read. I need to make some voltage checks and then see if I can try an
alignment.

Does anyone have a decent sized schematic I can beg, borrow, or buy? A scan
would be fine, assuming I can actually read the thing. I'll also need the
alignment procedure, and the troubleshooting guide would be nice. I've
looked to see if I could find all this stuff on the web, but as I said
before. the schematic was pretty tough to read. (I did copy from the .pdf
file I have and paste into Word and enlarge the picture, but it's just not
the greatest solution.)

Also, any troubleshooting hints would be helpful. I've built a ton of
Heathkits over the past 35 years or so, but never played with a -2036
before. I have 20+ years of electronics troubleshooting experience and
plenty of test equipment, so all I really need is a decent manual (and any
hints from -2036 veterans!).

Thanks in advance and 73,

Mike
