I don't judge your projects, why do you judge mine?  I don't think it ruins the rig.  I have an SSB/CW HW-101 and an AM-modded 101 and they both have their place.  

I believe the value of a mod is up to the owner of the rig.

My mod is completely reversable, and anyway there's certainly no need to "preserve" every example of the Heath HW-101 transceiver.  Many thousands exist, and they are economical to obtain... so what's yer beef?
