Steve,

Since you have done the preliminaries of tube
replacement and contact cleaning, now is the time to
look a litle deeper.

Check the values of all carbon composition resistors. 
In my SB-101 (very similar to the HW-101) I found a
couple dozen out of tolerance and probably a half
dozen that were open.  Needless to say, the radio did
not work too well that way.

There are a few resistors in the HW/SB-101 that
operate by design in excess of rated power
dissipation. These will be obviously discolored;
replace with higher wattage.

All carbon comps operated with a high voltage drop
will be suspect; plate load resistors and screen
dropping resistors will be among these. Those can be
replaced wholesale if you desire continued
reliability.
