[Heathkit] HW-101 service...

Hello Everyone,

Does anyone on the list know of a competent person who services HW-101s? I have a couple of HW-101s that deliver either very limited RF output into a dummy load, or else none at all. The receivers in both rigs seem fine. It seems clear that I need a second pair of eyes to look at them and get them running again.

Both of these rigs have been successfully cleaned up, bench tested, realigned and operated on the air in the past by me; however, both of their transmitters have now died on either some or all bands. Both of the rigs are unmodified.

Thorough cleaning of the bandswitch wafers, replacement of a couple of tubes, PS voltage measurements, and a careful eyeball inspection and realignment of both rigs have all proven fruitless.

The two rigs are identical except for the fact that only one of the pair has a CW filter in it; both have an SSB filter, of course. These rigs both beg to be operated on the air like my third HW-101, which runs very well on all bands. It too was rescued from a basement to avoid the junkyard, and so far whatever plagues the two sick rigs has avoided the rig that runs very well.

Suggestions for either a service person or possible next steps to remedy the TX problems would be very helpful.

Steve Banks
