Be sure it is nicotine stain.  I've seen some plastics yellow having been 
exposed to direct sunlight for periods of time.

My favorite polishing method is to use cheap tooth paste.  A dab on a moist 
finger rubbed in a circular manner seems to work well and will take out 
minor scratches and scuff marks.   May also reduce cavities and bad meter 
breath too.  :-)
