If you go by your local electric company service
center you might be able to obtain a gallon of modern
(non PCB) transformer oil. The electric company uses
it in all sorts of transformers and they keep it
around in very large quantities. Usually the
personnel at the service center will just give it to
you since they really don't have to keep that close a
"track" on the oil and they definitely don't have any
way of billing you.

Vetrinary grade mineral oil can be purchased at farm
supply stores at reasonable prices, and is a good
substitute for transformer oil (with proper derating).
It's also cheaper than medical (human) grade, and
probably just as good for this use.
