[Heathkit] SB200 alc problem

I have an SB200 that was converted to 6 meters. This had worked well for the 
past 5 or 6 years now, but lately, when keyed, the ALC pegs out and the 
first few words are lost. After a second or so, the alc readout on the 
transceiver shows it going back to normal. This happens using different 
rigs, and on both CW and SSB. Any ideas would be appreciated. TIA
