Bob

At the risk of drawing ire from around the planet and possibly TVs in
your neighborhood, try feeding the antenna directly from the DX100.
Tube finals with PI tuning will withstand some of this abuse. The book
may even describe how to do it. Lacking that:

   1. Set loading to minimum (maximum capacity)
   2. Reduce grid drive for the time being
   3. Dip the final
   4. Increase loading (decrease capacity)a bit
   5. Go back to 3 several times
   6. Increase grid drive a bit
   7. If final plate current is where the book says it should be (250
ma?), you're done.

Do not attempt to load the rig down for maximum output as would be done
for running the finals as linears. You want rated plate current with
rated grid drive and as much capacity remaining on loading caps as
possible.

Be carefull while having fun

I'm a new ham, will get my upgrade to general after the 23rd. My
question is, can I use a 400' LW for a transmitting antenna with a
DX-100? It's fed with RG-58. Should I get an antenna tuner and SWR
meter for this if it is OK to use? If so any suggestions? This would be
temporary until I get a dipole or something like that. I would like to
be able to transmit AM on 160 and 80 meters among other bands. I have
the room for a full length 1/2 wave 160 meter dipole in my back yard
but it is not the easiest thing in the world to do. I wouldn't be able
to get it up much over about 30' either.

thanks,
