Yeah, but, that's not the same company. You'll recall that Zenith
acquired Heath Corporation in 1979, then later formed Zenith Data
Systems for the computer business. Along that same time they also
formed "Heath/Zenith" which was sold to DESA LLC in Febr. 1998. Per a
10-Q filed at that time:
"On February 4, 1998, the Company purchased all of the issued and
outstanding stock of Heath Holding Corp. ("Heath/Zenith") for an
aggregate
purchase price of $42,365,000. The purchase price consisted of
$40,365,000 in cash and a $2,000,000 junior subordinated note payable.
Heath/Zenith is engaged in the manufacturing and distribution of
motion-sensor lighting products and wireless home-controlled
devices, all of which are included in the Specialty
Products segment of the Company" . More information about DESA is
available at www.desaint.com.
The Heath company we all remember(incorporated in 1926) lives on in the
form of Heathkit Educational Systems, which has relocated to Benton
Harbor (the Hilltop Road plant from the good old days is in St. Joseph),
and according to a business reporting service, has 24 employees and 20
million in 2006 sales. The company still owns the "Heathkit" name and
logo, Lori Marciniak is President.
