[Heathkit] SB-200 Input Inpedance.. Frustration Continues...

Unless i find someone to buy the POS for what i have into it i need to fix it. I installed new caps as suggested by many reflector members and as shown on the website by NE7X, and it didn't make one damn difference.

Sure, i can get 50 ohms at the input according to the MFJ-259, but the SWR meter still shows infinite. So how is that possible? I have 50ohms but infinite SWR on the 259 that is? I have never seen it do that. Just as a check i put various resistor values on the 259 and it checks out, i even went through the calibration procedure from MFJ and all checks out as it should, so its not the 259 acting up.

For example.. If i set the 259 to 3860 and adjust the 80m coil on the amp i can get it to show 50ohms but the SWR never moves. Consequently the radio still sees a HI SWR and folds back to nearly zero output.

I have tuned the coils all the way from one end to the other and even removing the slug, doesn't make a difference other than adjusting it to 50ohms at whatever frequency i have the 259 set to.

Since the cap swap i can't get 10m near 50 ohms, 15m is closer but not enough, 20m is 50ohms infinite swr, 40m is 50ohms infinite swr, 80m is 50ohms infinite swr.

Whats funny is 40m still works, to an extent. The radio flickers the HI SWR a few times and then settles in at about 90-95w output, it won't do a full 100w yet unfortunately.

Ok, fire off some ideas, because other than selling it on eBay as-is i'm out of them!

73,

Scott
