I would think long and hard before I used alcohol, acetone, or any other
solvent.

Years ago, I bought a Heathkit distortion alalyzer and decided to change the
input and output connectors from biunding posts to BNC jacks. Wanting to do
a really super job, I laid everything out with machinist's bluing. I drilled
my holes and installed my BNC jacks without any trouble. But when I applied
isoprophenol to take off the bluing, all the silkscreen lettering came off
as well. I wrote Heathkit, and they were good enough to send me a new panel
for free -- those days are long gone.
