Dave,

Before I'd go the 'paint alternative', I would try some alcohol on a 
Q-tip or such.

FIRST - on somplace that you can test for effect on the paint.  IF it 
passes that test - THEN try the ink marks.  Alcohol WILL remove EVEN the 
permanent-ink "Sharpie" marks.
