Given that you checked and/or replaced the resistors on both sides of the
focus control, I don't recall having this problem with the 610; I did
have the problem on the HO-10 and added an Astigmatism control to correct
it. Should be fairly simple to add one. Once you set it, you shouldn't
have to diddle further with it. To find the initial Astig. setting, there
will be some interaction with the focus control, but you should be able
to fine a happy medium where your line is focused on both ends.
Break the connection to pin 8 of the 3RP1; connect the center wiper of a
1 Meg pot to pin 8. Connect one side of the pot to ground; connect the
wire you removed from pin 8 to the other end of the pot. Check for
errors; turn on; and proceed to diddle.
