[Heathkit] HW7 Squegging

I have an HW7 that has Q2 squegging. Q2 FET MPF105/002/107 & NTE subs all oscillate at correct frequency but squegging stalls the oscillator. Ferrite beads on gate cure 7 MHz but 3.5 Mhz is still squegging, 20 uS on 70 uS off.
You can only get a few ferrite beads on the FET gate lead.
If I lower the voltage the oscillation stabilizes and the unit works OK.
I have too much feedback in the Q2 oscillator.
Does any one remember a solid fix?
Got to check some of the passives next.
I have seen all the archives (I think).
This is not a Teledyne FET.
