ACE hardware carries rubber like O rings that work great. Take the old one
with you and buy one that is about 10 percent smaller than the one you
removed.
Suggest you check the crystal for activity with a signal generator and a
scope. Scope on one leg, generator on the other. Sweep past the marked
frequency and you should see a burst of energy on the marked frequency.
Tune slowly, the Q of a crystal is sky high. If it does the burst of rf
energy thing then check it with a freq counter. Sometimes people switch
crystals from Heathkit to Heathkit and not all crystals are compatable with
all circuits. Things like HW 101 crystals are not necessarily totally
compatable with a SB 401 even if the freq's match. Also, make sure the
tuning coil is still mechanically good and will adj the uh's when turned.
