Hello,
maybe, for somebody is interesting, that these books have been translated to
german. And "SOS at Midnight" brought me to ham-radio. I got this book in the
public library as a child. I do not know exactly, but i believe, i was 11 or
13 years old. I had just begun to play with some electronic toys and build a
simple detector receiver and some of these things and discovered shortwave
with the kitchen-radio.Then i read the book and whow: There are people, who
were allowed to have an own TX and could communicate worldwide...
So i got involved in this hobby, got some other books fom the library and
rad everything, i could find about ham-radio. Also i borrowed the SOS at
Midnight from time to time and decided to get a ham. After lot of building
electronic toys, i got my licence in 1979, when i was 18 years and i am still active.
Some years ago, i got the book "SOS at Midnight" (in german) at ebay: What a
joy, to read it again. Felt younger than ever, hi. Later i found also the
"DX Brings Danger" in german and bought it also. I am not sure, if the other
books have been translated also, all the K6ATX books are no longer available
here. But i still look for Walker A. Tompkins in the book-section at ebay.
Sometimes, i see some of his wild-west-books, which also have been sold in
Germany in those days. May be, sometime i get some of the other Tommy Rockford
books: Be aware, i will make a bid at ebay...
