Hello All,
Are there any Michigan Hams using two meter AM? If so, who are you and where
are you located?
I have entertained the notion of having some two meter AM activity in the
Genesee County area and wondered if anyone else had a similar desire to see
how far our Heathkit Twoer could splatter television frequencies! (LOL!) I
have heard numerous accounts from Hams who did use, or had a friend who
used, the Heathkit Twoer in the sixties and claimed that the receiver, a
generative circuit, caused interference as distant as one half mile simply
by being turned on! Transmitting was not even needed! Apparently these tales
are true.
The first rig I ever used on the air was the Heathkit Twoer in the Shack of
a high school classmate of mine, K8UZJ, Mark R. Decker. (SK) Did any of you
ever talk with Mark? He was quite a guy and a brilliant Ham.
I remember seeing the QSL cards on his bedroom wall in 1961. (I was born
with a near photogenic memory and because of it I still remember visual
images from as far back as age sixth months. This has been an incredible
plus for me since I was totally blinded on the eve of my eighteenth birthday
in October 1964.) One of my great regrets is that Mark died before I got my
Ham license and that I was never able to work him and get his QSL card. As
active as he was until his death in 1996, I am sure some of you worked Mark
from his last home in Texas.
Anyone out there in the Genesee County area of MI interested in having some
fun with two meter AM? If so, please contact me.
Thanks!
