Many of the AGC mods were also written up in old CQ Ham clinic column circa
1960 to 65.

A local had the RX-1 as his receiver with a Globe Chief. It was light years
ahead of the S-20R he had as a novice. I got to operate it and found it to
be fairly good say compared to the RME 6900. It was not quite as sensitive
as a HQ-170 but even with the AGC (faster than fast) problem there was not
as much pumping on SSB. Very good on AM (we worked some 15 meters stuff).
Even loud stations such as W2ENM (some of you may remember sam Yatter and
his heavy duty KW) were quite good. He also had a SX-117 which is one
generation later that ran very smooth on SSB.

I don't think he ever made any mods to his RX-1.
