[Heathkit] DX-60 Problem

I have found that about 90% of the "screwy" problems
in boat anchors that I repair for others are caused by
loose hardware. One of the first things that I do is
to tighten all of the machine screws, nuts, etc., that
go through the chassis. Remember that the vast
majority of grounds are made through these fasteners.

This hardware works loose even if the unit sits in the
same place year after year. A few months back I
started developing some intermittent problems in my
Collins 75S-3A that has been on my main console for
over 30 years. I found that well over half of the
screws holding the tube sockets in place, the terminal
strips in place, and so forth had worked their way
loose. Since all of the grounds are made through
these the receiver was acting up. I tightened all of
them, checked the alignment (was still "right on") and
returned the receiver to its place on the console.

The same thing in the SB-101 that I had for a while.
Most of the machine screws that hold the circuit
boards in place (and make the ground connections) had
worked loose. Tightened them up and no more problems.

I must admit to not having checked grounds in general,
but I did check the grounds in and around the
modulator tube.
