Thanks for the suggestion, guys. Actually, my wife asked if such things
were done. Studying, researching, learning the new unit, and repairing
are fun to me, not tearing it down and starting over.
I've got a couple of new modulator tubes coming. At the moment, I'm
hoping that the problem is that the new tube I put in was ruined because
of the problems with the power supply, which had both bad electrolytics
and wiring errors. The tube manual says to not have more than 100vdc
difference between the cathode and heater. I certainly have more than
that and the symptoms fit an inactive tube. Everything else checks out.
The transmitter now works on CW and the only problem remaining is in
the audio section, so I hope drastic measures won't be required.
