If it were me, I'd pick up a cheapy audio filter like a MFJ CWF-2 at a
hamfest and get my selectivity there. I have one I could part with if
you can't find one.

I know a couple guys who replaced the half-lattice crystals in the
HR-10B's I.F. with a pair that were closer together (around 400 Hz.
apart) but in my opinion it wasn't worth the hassle. The skirt
selectivity was still as broad as a barn door - not even in the same
ball-park as an audio filter. Plus, if you like to listen to SSB,
changing the I.F. xtals distorts the audio pretty badly.

I don't think Doug has seen your post yet. He got the article from '73
with the HR-10 mods from VE3HUR who was kind enough to scan them. They
are now posted at the following URLs:
http://www.hamnutz.com/w1eof/hr-10mods/ or
ftp://bama.sbc.edu/uploads/

Best of luck, Ted!
Tom
