[Heathkit] Is The HR-20/HX-20 Rare?

Not rare.
More like scarce. At least out here in the SW states. The AM versions are
plentiful.
I did evaluate a HX 20 transmitter and found it ok. Nothing fabulous. As
usual with the Heath mobile stuff it is packed to the gills inside. No idea
about the SSB receiver. The older AM only mobile receiver looks just like
the SSB version. The AM only Heathkit mobile I would rate as so-so.
FYI:
The Heathkit mobiles are very difficult to re-string. If you have any
issues with drum rotation or tuning get it fixed before you acquire if you
can.
Re-stringing is best left to real headcases like myself who enjoy beating
themselves up over old ham gear.
