I have done the same thing with 2 DX-35s (my first rig) an HW-16 (soon
to be followed by another one), and several VF-1s. I am also just about
to start doing the same job on a couple of AR-3s (my first receiver).
I also replace all the floppy stranded wire in the frequency-determining
parts of the circuits of the VF-1s with very carefully cut, bent and fitted
#14 THHN solid wire.
That sure does make the little dudes more stable. Besides, it is purtier
inside.
De-soldering isn't that difficult. I use an old Solder-Sucker and solder
wick from Rat Shack.
And as Ted says, it is GREAT fun! :-)
