I called home to my son to check out my E.H. Scott Philharmonic. It =
shows
41 to 50 Mcs. I have installed a Scott FM converter from 1948 to drop =
the
new FM band into the old band. It uses three different band-switched
segments: 101 to 110, 93 to 102 and 88 to 93 and allows tuning the old =
band
with the fourth position.

Subject: [Heathkit] Re Commercial FM On Receivers

	=09
Hi All, =09
=09
Here is a question that perhaps some of our classic owners of vintage
heathkits
can answer.=09
=09
When was the consumer FM band first established and what were the =
frequency
band
edges?=20

When were receivers built to receive it?=09
=09
Naturally someone had to be transmitting on the FM band from 88-108 MHZ, =
if
that
was the original bandwidth, for listeners to hear a station. When did FM
broadcasting to the public first begin? =09
=09
Most of us are at least familiar with the unfortunate battle between the
conception of FM by Armstrong and the hurrendous opposition to it by =
David
Sarnoff who had invested very heavily into the new spectrum of =
television.
Sarnoff could not take the risk that Armstrong would be successful with =
FM
and
divert the spending of money by consumers from TV to FM radio. What year =
did
the
widow of Armstrong finally win the last Court litigation, or legal case,
that
slammed the door in the face of RCA's founder, David Sarnoff?=09
=09
Thank you.=09
